The origin of the project

All pieces fitted together.

This story might sound like too good to be true, but ...it is true.

It all started after Albion Bowers (engineer at NASA) made his TED presentation.

I thought of myself as a guy who knew a lot about flying wings. This presentation made me learn two new things. It put me back with both feet on the ground. I still had to learn a lot! I loved this TED talk of Albion Bowers!

Sadly the classic critics begin to nag and nag about details. "Horten didn't do this, Horten didn't achieve that". The same bla bla bla you hear every time when something non-conventional is displayed.

During a very rare chat with Al i congratulated him on his superb TED talk. Also i gave my deepest sorry for all the critics he had to endure in the flying wing internet discussion groups.

The next sentences are nearly quotes (lost the original chat)!!

Me: "Al, all we (the world) need is to have a full scale project to simply proof that Horten was right."

Al: "If somebody would want to do that, he can count on my help for the wingdesign."

Me: "Euh ...Al, how serious are you about this?"

Al: "Very serious."

Me: "Well ...currently i am working with a engineer on a Flying Flea project, but ...if you really would help, i would like to drop that project and go for this one."

Al: "Euh ...how serious are you about this?"

Me: "Very serious!"

And from that moment on, Al and i started having more chats. It was quickly clear that the Horten HXc would be the ideal concept for this revival of the Horten designs. Footlaunchable was the goal. Making it less expensive as the SWIFT was my second goal. Outperforming the SWIFT was a hope.

Man man, the world would have had a very special hangglider if it would have been finished.
